Benin is a county in Africa which is located in the central western side of the continent. Benin maps an area of 112,622 square kilometer. The capital of the country is Porto-Novo. The largest city in this country is Cotonou. The official language of the country is French.

The country got its independence from France in 1960. The government here is a multiparty democracy. The country was also known as Dahomey during the colonial period. The majority of the people in this country are Christians.

The economy of the country is under developed and it still survives on subsistence agriculture. Cotton is the main produce which accounts for nearly eighty percent of the exports. It also accounts for forty percent of the GDP. The country also wants to focus on tourism to divert attention and income from the agricultural sector.

This country used to have huge amount of inflations in the past. The maps of this country show that the country has an elongated shape with boundaries with four countries. The travel map of this country is filled with mangroves and savannah grass lands. There is hot and humid climate most of the year.
