East Timor is situated in Southeast Asia and it takes up the eastern part of the island of Timor. East Timor maps an area of 14,874 square kilometers. The capital city of the island is Dili which is also the largest city in the island. The official language of the island is Tetum and Portuguese, even Indonesian and English works out well.

The island is a parliamentary republic. It got its independence from Portugal and Indonesia in 1975 and 2002. it was the first new sovereign state of the millennium. The predominant religion in the country is Roman Catholic. Though, it is influenced by local animist culture.

 The climate of the island is generally tropical in nature, which means it is hot and humid most of the time. The economy of East Timor has been badly devastated because of a prolonged war of independence. The infrastructure of the country was destroyed by Indonesian troops.
