The maps of Haiti put this country in the Greater Antillean Archipelago. It occupies the island of Hispaniola. Haiti maps an area of 27, 751 square kilometer. The capital of the country is Port au Prince which is also the largest city in the country.

The official language of the country is Haitian Creole and French. Most of the population here is Black and the country is a presidential republic. It got its independence from France in 1804. Taino Arawak Indians were the original inhabitants of this island. It is the second largest island in the Greater Antilles and the third largest country in the Caribbean.

The country runs on major funding from rich American countries. More than half the population is supposed to be living in poverty.

More than half the Haitians work in the agricultural sector. Thirty to forty percent of the governments’ budget runs on foreign funds. In other words the scenario is very bad in Haiti.
