Mayotte is situated off shore of African continent and is an overseas territory of France. Mayotte maps an area of around three hundred and seventy four square kilometers. The capital of the country is Mamoudzou and it is also the biggest city in the country.

The official language of the country is French though there are other vernaculars like Shiamore and Malagasy. The ethnic population consists of comorians who are in a majority. Most of the people in this country are Muslims and Islam is the main religion of the country. The economy of Mayotte is based basically on agriculture and livestock rearing. Fishing is also an important industry in the country. The island imports most of its food grains from France. Its remote location is one of the factors in non development of tourism.
