On a map of Oceania, it would be found on the south eastern part of the continent of Asia. This region consists of a number of land masses most of them being islands in the area of the Pacific Ocean. The term itself was coined by a French explorer by the name of Dumont d’Urville. Australia also comes into the purview of Oceania.
It is further sub divided on the map into Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia. It is spread over 9,037,695 square kilometer. There are fifteen independent and twenty dependent countries in this continent. Hawaii is the northern island of Polynesian triangle and the Maori culture represents the main element of Polynesian culture.
Sometimes countries like Australia prefer not to be included in Oceania. Oceania has also been declared one of the terrestrial eco zones. Rugby, football and cricket are the most important games of this region. Economy wise Oceania has only ten to five percent jobs in agriculture. Developed nations like Australia and New Zealand rely basically on service industry.
The poorer nation’s primary industry is agriculture. Tourism also forms a major part of the Oceania’s income. Fishing is also a major industry for the smaller nations of Oceania.In the Solomon Islands which is a small country on the map of Oceania 50% of the governments spending is paid by international donors like Australia, New Zealand, European Union and China.
