Tonga is an archipelago situated in the South Pacific Ocean. It lies south of Samoa. Tonga maps an area of around seven hundred and forty eight square kilometers. The capital of the country is Nuku`alofa which is also the largest city on the island. The official language of the island is Tongan and English.
The government here is a constitutional monarchy. It ceased being a British protectorate in 1970. This is the only island in the region not to have a colonial rule over it. This is the only island to still continue with monarchy in the Pacific island groups.
A number of islands in this country lack electricity. The economy is generally made up of remittances sent from people of this island living abroad. All the monetary sector of the economy is in the hands of the Tonga’s royalty and nobility. There is a strong Chinese presence in the private business of the island.
